Pitching new media technology at the Nordic Media Festival

This year the Nordic Media Festival arranged a national pitching competition to promote media innovation. There was eight hopeful innovative media companies, but the winner was Bergen-based.

The winner *drum-roll*: Soundio! With their new product, Alight, they will use music technology to help people with dementia. The idea is to reinforce and prolong the treatment given at hospitals.

– We hope to help people with dementia through building a bridge between their home and the hospital, says Erlend Hausken from Soundio.

Watch Medier24 video-interview with Hausken and Head of Incubation and Acceleration at BTO, Hilde Indresøvde. Soundio is a member of our incubator Mediekuben, in Media City Bergen.
Soundio is also the company behind the award-winning and internationally recognized DJ-app Vibble.

The jury’s verdict was that they have a good product that solves a social problem.
Soundio hopes that the product will be ready for use after the summer, both for institutions and for private use.

Tough competition

Among the pitchers who fought for the prize at NMD Startup was Inkypen who has developed Netflix for comics, Instapoll who provides real time sentiment analytics for sport and politics and have already signed with TV2 and The Oslo Desk who focuses on the lack of immigrants in journalism, which narrows the information and social vision being spread in the media.

The other pitchers were: Pazzing, Soundio, Nurofy, Showtag and Rentarage.

The prize is a unique and valuable toolbox for companies in the start-up phase; participation in one of Innovation Norway’s international programs in New York or Silicon Valley, as well as financial, structural or legal advice from PwC for a value of 50,000.

NMD Startup was held for the first time at Nordic Media Festival, and is a cooperation between Sparebanken Vest, Mediebedriftenes Landsforening, Innovation Norway, Hordaland County Council, PwC, Bergen Teknologioverføring and Nordic Media Festival.
